Dharm Desk. Dussehra or Vijayadashami festival is celebrated every year on the Dashami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month. With the conclusion of Sharadiya Navratri, the Dashami Tithi is celebrated as Vijayadashami. This festival is considered a symbol of the victory of good over evil. On this day, effigies of Ravana as well as Kumbhakarna and Meghnad are burnt. According to religious belief, on this day Lord Shri Ram killed Ravana, the king of Lanka, and freed Sita from him. Apart from this, Maa Durga killed Mahishasura. Therefore, Dussehra is also called Vijayadashami, because on this day goodness won over evil. This festival is celebrated by burning the effigy of Ravana across the country.
